Graduate Careers Ireland (GCI) is the professional association for careers services in higher education in Ireland, north and south. GCI members welcome the opportunity to partner with and support employers in their graduate recruitment efforts.
Professional Advice on Graduate Recruitment
Graduate Careers Ireland and GCI member services have extensive experience in every aspect of graduate recruitment and have always shared their knowledge and advice freely with employers of all sizes and from every sector and provide an all year round commitment to meeting employer needs.
We can help you with any or all of the following:
- Advice on specific degree and postgraduate courses.
- Easy access to third and fourth level students and graduates through targeted emails, posters, recruitment fairs, presentations, guest lectures, career workshops, skills training, vacancy advertising
- Advice on issues relating to graduate recruitment ? e.g. qualifications, exemptions, employment trends, graduate salaries, the timing of recruitment.
- Insights into student attitudes to employment

Bringing employers and careers services together
Graduate Careers Ireland works to bring employers and careers services together to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern. Throughout the year, there are a number of events that employers attend which focus on key issues and provide you with an invaluable networking opportunity to meet other recruiters and careers professionals. These include:
- Graduate recruiters conference in partnership with GroupGTI.
- Employers’ forum
- Employers’ breakfast
- Training courses for new recruiters of graduates
- Recruitment and Careers Fairs
Championing graduate recruitment throughout Ireland
Graduate Careers Ireland also has a wider role in promoting the benefits of graduates to the economy of Ireland, in promoting the development of graduate recruitment into new sectors and within smaller companies and in making our voice heard in government circles, with employer organizations and in the national press. Graduate Careers Ireland and GCI members are involved in the following:

Raise your profile on campus:
Graduate Careers Ireland member Careers Services will advise on strategic approaches to assist employers in increasing their visibility on campus and in achieving their graduate recruitment goals.
Specific actions to increase an employers’ profile on campus may include:
- Student Profiles: Provide a profile of a recent graduate you have recruited from the college to the Careers Service to assist them in marketing your organisation to students.
- Weblinks: Create links from the College Careers website directly to the graduate recruitment pages of your organisation.
- Sponsor Clubs and Societies: Support specific activities undertaken by appropriate clubs and societies or support sports scholarship initiatives.
- Advertise with the Students Union: Various publications are produced annually by the Students Union in individual Colleges. Opportunities also exist to support various events such as fashion shows, balls, awards etc.
- Logo/Banner Advertising: Advertise on individual careers services websites through sponsoring a section of the website in return for having your logo displayed or placing a banner advert on one of the most visited pages
- Advertising with gradireland – gradireland – developed in partnership with graduate careers services in Ireland and Northern Ireland offers a range of advertising options including the gradireland directory, sector career guides, Ireland’s 100 leading graduate recruiters – Full information is available here
- Sponsoring exam prizes: Sponsor the best exam results in relevant modules, the highest achiever in a particular year or a prize at graduation.
- Sponsoring projects: Various options exist in sponsoring projects including – Providing the projects which students then research and complete, support projects undertaken by students through advice, interviews etc; financially supporting the projects assigned to students.
- Sponsoring Careers Service Publications: Every individual careers service produces publications throughout the year – booklets, information packs, flyers.
- Targeted Emails: Target specific programmes and classes of students by email.
- Exhibition Stands on Campus: An effective alternative to a presentation. Book a stand in a busy campus location, meet informally with students and distribute recruitment literature.
- Careers Fairs: Attending Career Fairs is an excellent way of gaining access to a highly relevant pool of interested students. A full list of career fairs is available here (pls link to events page)
- Presentations: The careers service will provide a venue where possible, provide audio-visual equipment and promote the event amongst students.
- Career workshops – Take part in a career workshop – these involve a panel of speakers who deliver a 10-15 minute informal presentation detailing their career path, “a day in the life” and tips on entry into the profession.
- Skills Training: Deliver value added presentations on areas including: CV writing, interviewing skills, career planning.
- Guest Lectures – In consultation with appropriate faculty - deliver a guest lecture in a relevant module – highlighting best practice and sharing expertise.
- Internships – Recruit a second or third year student on a summer or full year internship. Every year significant numbers of interns are hired back by employers upon graduation. Final year students can also act as “on campus” ambassadors for the organisation.
- Vacancies: Advertise graduate and internship opportunities directly with the careers services and with gradireland.com
