Strategic Plan - 2007 -2009

Graduate Careers Ireland (GCI) formerly known as the Association of Graduate Careers Services in Ireland (AGCSI) has undergone considerable change during the past ten years as evidenced by the gaining of charitable status and the formation of a strategic partnership with the publishers GroupGTI to develop the gradireland portfolio of products including the very successful gradireland.com website. There are fresh challenges ahead as both parts of the island seek to embrace the knowledge economy and create sustainable employment for the graduate workforce.

During 2005/06 the GCI membership took part in a strategic review, which led to fresh clarity about the purpose and objectives of the organisation. The newly formed Executive (Jean Stirrup, Queen's University Belfast, Dave Kilmartin, Dublin Institute of Technology, Colm Tobin, University College Dublin, Caroline Kennedy, National College of Ireland, Padraic Gallagher, University of Limerick, Marie Kielty, Institute of Technology Tallaght Dublin, Angela Collins, Waterford Institute of Technology, Harriet Andrews, Dundalk Institute of Technology, Muireann Ni Dhuigneain, Dublin City University and Sean Gannon, Trinity College Dublin) commissioned an external consultant, Claire Byrne, to carry this work forward and to produce a strategy and action plan for the organisation.

This document sets the direction and strategic priorities for the organisation for the coming three years. The intention is that this plan will guide the organisation beyond the term of the current Executive, which ends in 2008. However it will be reviewed annually in order to respond to the changing needs of the organisation's key stakeholders - students, employers, academic staff and policy makers.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Claire Byrne and the members of the Executive for their invaluable assistance in preparing this plan.
