Goal 1: To devise innovative solutions for core service provision to students

  • Develop a high quality innovative interactive on line resource for students, similar to the AGCAS Scotland & Careers Wales models and ensure that resources are made available in hard copy also.

  • Develop a set of generic careers education workshops for postgraduate students, and make them available to Graduate Careers Ireland members.

  • Develop a set of careers service guidelines regarding the recommended level of service provision for postgraduate students.

  • Include modules on ‘access’ as part of Graduate Careers Ireland’s current training programme, to raise awareness of the needs of an increasingly diverse student population (e.g. disadvantaged, mature, international, those with a disability etc). In the meantime, all members should familiarise themselves with the European Foundation’s publication ‘Supporting Employability Guides to Good Practice in Employment, Counselling and Guidance’

  • Ensure that an information pack is distributed to all Graduate Careers Ireland members, which reflects the legal framework within both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland for higher education careers services.

  • Promote the importance of transferable skills amongst students and graduates, by obtaining overall responsibility and management of the Transferable Skills Project Website www.skillsproject.ie

  • Establish greater collaboration between third level International Departments by co-writing a generic ‘mobility information pack’ (incorporating resources such as the Irish Council for Overseas Students website (www.icosirl.ie) for international students, which addresses multicultural employment issues.

  • Encourage greater participation by students in European Exchange Programmes by promoting the many educational and labour market opportunities abroad for students and graduates both North and South.

Goal 2: To raise employer awareness of the value of higher education

  • Aim to enhance links with employers, by appointing Graduate Careers Ireland Liaison Officers to link with a number of external employer groups.

  • Appoint a Graduate Careers Ireland member(s) to establish representation on the forthcoming National Guidance Forum 2007, in order to help strengthen joint and co-operative work between Graduate Careers Ireland and the NGF.

  • Appoint a Graduate Careers Ireland member(s) to carry out collaborative research in the area of employment and labour market demands, throughout the island of Ireland and internationally.

  • Develop a web-based repository of graduate labour market information in association with GroupGTI Ireland.

  • Ensure that all members promote effective partnerships with employers by sharing work placement success stories, and graduate success stories on the gradireland website www.gradireland.com

  • Encourage all Graduate Careers Ireland members to use the current vacancy template recently developed by GroupGTI Ireland.

  • Identify a set of actions that will further strengthen the relationship with GroupGTI Ireland and Graduate Careers Ireland over the next three years.
